Hi-Fi, Reimagined: Meet the Yamaha NX-70A
A decade in the making, Yamaha returns to wireless stereo — and it has its sights set squarely on the high end.

There are moments when a product announcement feels less like a launch and more like a statement of intent. The Yamaha NX-70A is one of those moments. Unveiled at the 2026 High End show, this is Yamaha's first true wireless stereo system in ten years — a pair of active hi-fi speakers that distils more than a century of musical instrument craftsmanship into two beautifully rounded cabinets, finished with a solid aluminium top plate and jewel-like copper detailing.
This is not a soundbar. It is not a lifestyle speaker. The NX-70A is genuine two-channel high fidelity — amplification, streaming, room correction and TV connectivity built in — aimed directly at systems like the KEF LS50 Wireless II. And it arrives wearing the quiet confidence of a brand that builds grand pianos as well as flagship loudspeakers.
The Soul of a Grand Piano
At the heart of every NX-70A driver sits Yamaha's Harmonious Diaphragm™ — a blend of ZYLON™, the ultra-rigid synthetic fibre used in Yamaha's flagship NS-2000A loudspeakers, and spruce wood, the very material used in the soundboards of Yamaha grand pianos. Because the 5¼-inch woofer and 1¼-inch dome tweeter share the same diaphragm material, the speaker sings with one unified voice from the lowest note to the highest harmonic. Voices sound human. Instruments sound real.
Driving them is up to 100W for the woofer and 60W for the tweeter, managed by Yamaha's newly developed Synergistic Drive™ — a unified circuit design that connects each driver directly to its amplifier stage. By designing amp and driver as a single dedicated system, Yamaha minimises the distortion that arises in conventional amplifier-and-passive-speaker pairings. Few companies on earth engineer both amplifiers and speakers at this level; the NX-70A is what happens when one of them puts that advantage to work.
Tuned to Your Room, Not a Showroom
Every listening room is different — and most rooms are living rooms, not treated studios. The NX-70A is the rare hi-fi speaker that accounts for this, with YPAO™ room calibration on board. Using the supplied microphone, YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) measures how your space behaves, tames the early reflections that blur stereo imaging, and fine-tunes tonal balance with high-precision EQ. The result is a natural, focused soundstage wherever the speakers end up standing.
Even the cabinet serves the sound: the rounded form avoids parallel internal surfaces to suppress standing waves, while the 5mm aluminium plate bolted into the top reinforces the enclosure into a single solid structure.
Everything Streams. Nothing Intrudes.
The NX-70A is built for the way we actually listen today. Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast™ and AirPlay 2 are all on board, alongside Roon Ready certification for those with serious digital libraries. Yamaha's MusicCast app ties it all together — sources, multiroom zones, playlists and album art in one place.
Television sound gets the same respect. A single HDMI eARC/ARC connection brings movie nights into genuine stereo hi-fi, with CEC letting your TV remote handle power and volume. An optical input, 3.5mm AUX and a subwoofer pre-out round out the connections — and because the left and right speakers link wirelessly to each other, there is no signal cable running across your floor. Place them where they sound best, not where the cables allow.

Our Take
The wireless hi-fi category has been waiting for a heavyweight challenger, and Yamaha has delivered one with real intent. The NX-70A asks a simple question: why should convenience cost you fidelity? With piano-grade materials, amplifier-to-driver engineering no lifestyle brand can match, and room correction that meets your home where it lives, the answer is — it shouldn't.
The Yamaha NX-70A arrives internationally from July 2026 in black or white. Contact the Audico team to be first in line for pricing, availability and a listening appointment — some speakers you simply have to hear.
