Overview

The Lab Gruppen E4:2 amplifier incorporates advanced design principles from the flagship D Series and PLM Powered Loudspeaker Management systems. Featuring the patented IDEEA (IntelliDrive Energy Efficient Amplifier) platform, it offers energy-efficient, low current draw operation ideal for 21st-century commercial AV environments.

Maintaining Lab Gruppen’s renowned sonic performance and robust power output, the E4:2 exceeds Energy Star 3.0 certification requirements by reducing current draw during high output and lowering power consumption when idle.

Design and Features

The amplifier includes a 50 Hz high-pass filter (switchable per channel), detachable Phoenix-type screw terminals for inputs and outputs, and a temperature-controlled fan that activates only at higher signal levels. Comprehensive circuit protection and fault indication ensure reliable 24/7 operation.

Its high-headroom universal power supply accepts mains voltages from 70 to 265 V at 50 or 60 Hz, preventing excessive current draw during peak bursts and maintaining headroom for sustained output with minimal distortion. The Class D output stage operates at over 90% efficiency and supports bridged operation, allowing one channel to deliver up to twice the rated power when the other channel is unused or lightly loaded.

Rail Sensing Limiter (RSL)

The proprietary Rail Sensing Limiter optimises amplifier output for connected loads. Each channel has a two-position switch for low impedance or high impedance (70 V) loudspeaker systems, maintaining +4 dBu sensitivity regardless of load. RSL enables asymmetric loading, maximising power utilisation and system efficiency.

Energy Efficiency and Control

To comply with Energy Star standards, the E4:2 features auto-power-down after 20 minutes of no signal and auto-power-on when signal returns. A GPI-type contact closure allows external control of power state and integration with power sequencers.
